Macomb-White papers, 1835-1867, (bulk 1859-1867).

Correspondence, receipts, military papers, a broadside, and a circular briefly document the military service of Henry White (1835-1836), the school and military careers of Samuel White and Rufus K. Macomb (1859-1865), and life in Harris County, Texas, during the Civil War. An honorable discharge from the Liberty Volunteers signed by Andrew Briscoe and Stephen F. Austin (1835) and a permit signed by Captain John Bird (1836) instructing White to return to San Jacinto and stand in readiness to march concern Henry White's military service. A transcript of nineteen letters and one letter fragment written by Addie J. Simms to Rufus K. Macomb (1863-1864) records marriages, illnesses, births, deaths, and the effect of the Civil War on everyday occurrences in Gentry Station, Harris County. Two receipts from Houston Academy (1859) for Samuel White and Macomb and an honorable discharge from the Confederate Army (1865) for Samuel White deal with school and military careers. A broadside (ca. 1861) addressed "To the Citizens of Harris County" appeals for donations of warm clothing for Confederate soldiers. A single issue of the Commercial Bulletin Letter-Sheet, Galveston, Texas, records wholesale prices in September 1867.
